We
book a wide number of bands, but for your swing band needs we
exclusively book The Swing Doctors, which can be configured
with a male singer (Frank Sinatra-style), female singer (Ella
Fitzgerald-style), both, or instrumental with no singer. The
band can also be hired as a trio or quartet for smaller situations.
The
Swing Doctors
The Ideal Band for Weddings, Parties & More!
Originally
based in Boston, MA, The Swing Doctors relocated to New York
City and have attained a reputation as one of the top swing
bands in the area. In the tradition of Benny Goodman, Duke Ellington
and Count Basie, the Doctors can be called “classic” swing,
though their youth and energy appeal to a wide age range from
17 to 70, making them the perfect crowd-pleasing band for weddings
and parties. Band leader Jesse Gelber literally plays 1000 songs
from the dawn of the jazz era to swing to Sinatra to rhythm
and blues, so the band can tailor their performance to your
needs. They also regularly perform as a jazz trio or quartet,
depending on the client's needs.
Pianist/Band
Leader Jesse Gelber is a graduate of the New England Conservatory
of Music where he majored in jazz performance and composition.
He has won many awards, including a 1997 ASCAP Young Composer’s
Award, and first place in the 1992 Marvin Wolff Jazz Piano Competition.
Jesse is an expert in the piano styles of the 1930s, 40s, and
50s, and has been performing in New York’s best vintage jazz
venues such as The Red Blazer and The Cajun. Jesse plays with
veterans of the Woody Herman, Stan Kenton, Tommy Dorsey orchestras.
Vince Giordanno and the Nighthawks. With a mean "stride" left
hand, Jesse can make the piano sound like an entire big band
or, in more pensive moments evoke the sophistication of Duke
Ellington.
