Lee Bennett Sobel began making films at the age of 14. He later graduated from New York University's film school where he directed RICK BLAZEN IS IN TROUBLE, a take-off on the 1940's detective serials, complete with period cars, costumes and props. Sobel packaged the short film into a TV series which Adam "Batman" West agreed to star in if it was ever made. The series never came to be, but the film did win the Cinemagic Short Film award.

After working as a story editor for producers Robert Halmi and Nelle Nugent in New York and Hollywood, Sobel returned to New York and to filmmaking. He directed the 30-minute RETRO about a woman obsessed with the 50's who falls in love with a guy hooked on the 40's; BLOND FURY, a 45-minute lesbian action comedy about two trashy Jersey housewives who team up to save their kidnapped husbands and end up falling in love with each other; two one act plays called HOLLYWOOD ON THE FRINGE about movie biz hanger-ons; the 90-minute documentary ROCKABILLY '96 LIVE; and the 90-minute feature film BURNIN' LOVE which was picked up for distribution by Troma Entertainment and retitled ROCKABILLY VAMPIRE.

On Halloween, 2001 Troma released a deluxe DVD for ROCKABILLY VAMPIRE (with a director's commentary track), and which also included BLOND FURY and scenes from ROCKABILLY '96 LIVE.

Sobel is currently developing several projects in addition to working as a music promoter and DJ.
