Lee
Bennett Sobel began making films at the age of 14. He
later graduated from New York University's film school
where he directed RICK BLAZEN IS IN TROUBLE,
a take-off on the 1940's detective serials, complete
with period cars, costumes and props. Sobel packaged
the short film into a TV series which Adam "Batman"
West agreed to star in if it was ever made. The series
never came to be, but the film did win the Cinemagic
Short Film award.

working as a story editor for producers Robert Halmi
and Nelle Nugent in New York and Hollywood, Sobel returned
to New York and to filmmaking. He directed the 30-minute
RETRO about a woman obsessed with the 50's who
falls in love with a guy hooked on the 40's; BLOND
FURY, a 45-minute lesbian action comedy about two
trashy Jersey housewives who team up to save their kidnapped
husbands and end up falling in love with each other;
two one act plays called HOLLYWOOD ON THE FRINGE
about movie biz hanger-ons; the 90-minute documentary
ROCKABILLY '96 LIVE; and the 90-minute feature
film BURNIN' LOVE which was picked up for distribution
by Troma Entertainment and retitled ROCKABILLY VAMPIRE.
On
Halloween, 2001 Troma released a deluxe DVD for ROCKABILLY
VAMPIRE (with a director's commentary track), and
which also included BLOND FURY and scenes from
ROCKABILLY '96 LIVE.
Sobel
is currently developing several projects in addition
to working as a music promoter and DJ.
